Key Stage 2 Learning Experiences

We offer three exciting workshops tailored for Key Stage 2 pupils, each designed to bring history to life. Choose from The Boudicca vs. Romans Experience, The Roman Soldier Experience or The Ancient Greek Experience, each packed with engaging activities to deepen understanding of Roman Britain and Europe and Ancient Greece.

Our experiences are accessible to all schools, enabling teachers to select workshops that fit their pupils’ learning needs and budgets. Each workshop combines hands-on activities, process drama and authentic artefacts to create a truly immersive learning environment.

Experiences

Roman Soldier Experience

Led by Centurion Titus Flavius, this workshop invites pupils to experience life in the Roman Empire through drama and interactive activities. Pupils will:

  • Train like Roman soldiers using authentic formations.
  • Learn about Roman discipline, weapons and tactics.
  • Gain insights into daily life and the structure of Roman society.

The Roman Soldier Experience explores the structure of the Roman military, including its weaponry – such as swords, shields and formations like the testudo. It delves into how Roman culture shaped Europe through advancements in many things, not just battles.

Pupils also discover captivating figures from Roman history, including notorious emperors and legendary generals, bringing the era to life through engaging and interactive activities.

Boudicca vs. Romans Experience

This workshop brings Queen Boudicca’s rebellion to life as a Roman Centurion and Iceni Warrior transport pupils into the drama of the Roman invasion. Pupils actively participate in:

Discovering the significance of this moment in British history.

Exploring the conflict between the Iceni and the Romans.

Understanding the strategies and stakes of rebellion.

The Ancient Greek Experience

Step back in time to Ancient Greece with Spartan officer Adrian Adamos, where pupils will:

  • Handle replica Greek weapons and shields.
  • Form a phalanx and learn military strategies.
  • Explore the influence of Ancient Greek culture, education, and democracy.

Each workshop not only engages pupils but also enhances their understanding of history in schools, making it an ideal choice for activity days and fulfilling Key Stage 2 curriculum objectives.

Vikings: Raider vs Trader

Led by Viking warrior Siggurd, this immersive workshop challenges pupils to decide how the Norse settlers should deal with the native Saxons – by trading or raiding. Pupils will:

  • Step into the life of a Viking warrior and merchant for the day.
  • Explore Viking beliefs, burial customs and global trade connections.
  • Try axe throwing, archery, shield wall formations and handle real Viking artefacts.

The Vikings: Raider vs Trader experience brings the dramatic world of Norse exploration to life through hands-on history. From the Great Heathen Army to Viking raids in far-off Morocco, pupils will investigate key events, meet Norse gods, and uncover the legacy of Viking innovation, language, and global influence – all while building critical thinking, teamwork, and curiosity.

“Incredibly immersive from the first second until way beyond home time. The children get to learn at a depth that only a visit to the Roman Empire would allow, all from the comfort of their own school. X out of X from us. Thank you very much!”

Mr Stanhope-Smith, Head of Department at Edward Worlledge Primary Academy

Exploring Ancient Greece

The Ancient Greek Experience transports pupils to a time of myth, democracy and legendary battles. Pupils work together to form the iconic phalanx, explore the cultural and educational practices of Ancient Greece and examine artefacts like shields and helmets.

The Ancient Greek Experience explores key topics such as the role of Spartan soldiers in defending Greece from Persian invasions, the influence of Ancient Greek schools in shaping democracy and philosophy, and the lasting impact of Greek innovations on modern society.

By engaging with these historical elements first-hand, pupils gain a richer understanding of how the Greeks contributed to education, art, and science, fostering a deep appreciation for their enduring legacy.

Immersive Learning Through History

History is brought to life in a way that inspires curiosity and captivates the imagination of Key Stage 2 pupils. By actively engaging in workshops, pupils not only learn about historical events but also understand the people and societies that shaped them. Our experiences provide children with the tools to connect with history, fostering a lifelong love for learning.

Our workshops are uniquely designed to integrate hands-on activities and interactive storytelling, ensuring that every pupil feels included and inspired. This approach aligns with the goals of teachers looking for creative teaching ideas and fulfilling curriculum objectives.
